Police Unity Tour (PUT) 2015

I'm still doing Body Beast, but I have to ride a bicycle for 250 miles over 3 days coming up soon for the Police Unity Tour in Washington D.C. I completed a 2nd round of Beast only a few days ago and I jumped right into a 3rd round. I am totally loving the program and loving all of the food I get to eat.

However, right now I need to focus on my road bike. The ride starts May 9th so I only have a little bit of time. Thankfully Beast has kept me in shape so I know that I will be able to complete the ride. The only issue with riding for that long is sitting on the seat, but I'll get through it. I am looking so forward to riding for the fallen officers and honoring them.

Always remember that fitness is fitness. You can walk, run, bike, lift weights, etc. as long as you are doing SOMETHING to be ACTIVE.

BodyBeast Cutting Phase

I am in the final 3 weeks of BodyBeast which is the cutting phase. The macros for this phase change to a 40/30/30 ratio. This means I lower my carb intake. Today was day 1 and I did quite well and I don't feel hungry even though it was leg day. I will also be cycling during this phase to get read for the Police Unity Tour so I do not know if I will be able to sustain the diet every day. I think on the days that I ride, I will have to have more food so that I don't zonk out.

And yes, Beast legs is still just as damn hard this far into it. But I love it.

Monday - A Fresh Start

I am in the final week of the Bulk phase of Beast. I will only have the final 3 weeks left, which is the cutting phase. I have not been sticking to my diet well at all. I have had Kit Kats a lot lately, which of course are my Achilles heel. Since it is Monday, it is a good day for a fresh start. I will hit my macros numbers today. I also plan to go for a 15-20 mile bicycle ride and to squeeze in my bulk back workout.

What are macros?

I want to try and explain this in the simplest terms. I belong to many groups on Facebook and I have noticed that many people have a hard time grasping this concept. I first heard of the term macros when doing the P90X3 program. I also then learned that in order to get these macros things right, I needed to use a program like My Fitness Pal in order to track my macros and the foods I was putting into my body. It can be done using the old-fashioned pen and paper, but ain't nobody got time for that.

So anyways, back to macros. Macros are the breakdown of the nutrients you feed your body and the three main ones are protein, carbohydrates, and fat. YES, you do need carbohydrates, but the sources you get them from can vary depending up on your preference. I cannot remember the exact breakdown of macros in the P90X3 program without looking at the nutrition guide, but macros are also used in the BodyBeast program. The breakdown in the bulk phase is 50% carbs, 25% fats, and 25% protein. This is better referred to as 25/50/25. The first two months follow that system. The last month is where you start to cut fat, which means you will also have to get rid of some carbs which leaves this breakdown 30/40/30 which is 30% carbs, 40% protein, and 30% fat. This last phase is not something that can be sustained for very long periods of time. Beast is designed for 3 weeks of this during the final phase and the book of Beast explains why.

And like I said before, the easiest way to track all of this is to use the My Fitness Pal app. I also had help from the website and I can help with that too if you have questions about it. Do not rely on Facebook for you information because a lot of the stuff on there is wrong, same as with internet searches.

Bulking UP with candy

Of course with Valentine's Day, there was candy overload. I just enjoyed it. I figure since I am in a bulking phase, the more I eat the better. Lots of food builds lots of muscles. I am so happy with this weightlifting program, BodyBeast, and the fact that I get to eat all kinds of foods. No more low carb, paleo, no dairy bull crap. I have gotten a little off with all the candy, but I am going to get back on track tomorrow. I'm going to enjoy a good beer tonight because I deserve it. Work has been crazy.

BodyBeast - BULK phase

I'm in my second round of Body Beast and instead of the lean schedule, I did the beast schedule this time around. The first three weeks were the build phase. These next six weeks will be the bulk phase. I love the bulk workouts because most of them take less than or about 30 minutes. I weighed in this morning at 162 and I'm totally happy with that. I am not feeling bloated. I'm actually feeling pretty strong, except for the fact that I am coming down with some sort of cold/flu/sinus funk. Neti pot every day for the next week or so to rinse this crap out of me.

Making gains

I had a stomach bug so I missed 4 days of working out and eating. The only thing I was able to eat was crackers and I had to drink gatorade and ginger ale. It was good to have some days off though. I returned to the gym and was lifting just as heavy as before. I'm loving the iifym way of eating because I get to have cereal. The cereal aisle is my favorite. My number one faves right now are Lucky Charms and Captain Crunch. The extra calories I'm getting during my bulk are really helping me push some heavy weights and make gains in the gym. I'm still having to be careful with my shoulder, but things are coming along.
